Deputies at Freedom Middle for report of bomb threat

UPDATE: Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Scott Baker was meeting with middle school principals today and another staff member met with administrators at Wilderness Elementary this morning to address the recent spate of bomb threats at schools, division spokeswoman Rene Daniels said.

“There is a strategy being put in place but I can’t give details,” Daniels said.

School officials also are working to determine which students are responsible for the threats that have disrupted classes, SOL testing and bus rides to home.

UPDATE: Sheriff’s Office gives all clear at Freedom Middle. Afternoon SOL testing will be rescheduled, schools spokeswoman Rene Daniels just told me. Buses should be traveling on schedule this afternoon.

Below is the full release from Ms. Daniels.

As of 12:43 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office completed the search of Freedom Middle School and has given the administration the all clear for students and staff to enter the building.  Afternoon SOL testing will be rescheduled.  Buses and parent pickup will proceed as scheduled.  All students are safe and accounted for.

UPDATE: Freedom Middle School students in Spotsylvania were evacuated after a bomb threat was found in a bathroom stall about 11:40 a.m. As of 12:06 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office was still searching the school.

Below is the message distributed recently to parents of Freedom Middle School parents from the Spotsylvania school division.

This is an important message for the parents and guardians of students attending Freedom Middle School.  At approximately 11:40 a.m. today a bomb threat was found in one of the bathroom stalls.  The Sheriff’s Office was contacted and we are following protocols led by the Sheriff’s Office to ensure the safety of all students and staff.   School administration, in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Office, is investigating the threat and we will provide you with an update as we know more details.  At this time, all students have been evacuated from the building and all students are safe and accounted for.  A letter regarding the investigation will be sent home with your child today.  Please be assured that your child’s safety is our highest priority.

Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Deputies are on the scene of Freedom Middle School for a possible bomb threat, the Sheriff’s Office is reporting.

We’ll update you as we have more information.

Spotsylvania school officials were slated to meet this morning to talk about how to deal with the recent rash of bomb threats at Wilderness Elementary and Ni River Middle School.

Students were evacuated from Ni River Middle School Wednesday after a bomb threat was found inside a student restroom at 1:10 p.m.

That threat delayed the release of students from Ni River and impacted the bus schedules of four elementary schools. It also meant afternoon SOL tests at Ni River had to be rescheduled.

Wednesday’s was the third bomb threat at Ni River Middle School this year, according to schools spokeswoman Rene Daniels. Wilderness Elementary has had two, including one earlier this week.
