Cedar Forest Elementary School’s staff members were recognized at this evening’s School Board meeting for programs of outreach to the community.
Below are details provided by Assistant Superintendent Scott Baker.
On March 16, Cedar Forest Elementary School received the Second Place Award at the Mid-Atlantic Family Engagement Summit in Lynchburg. In citing Cedar Forest’s reasons for this recognition, Anna Hinton, Director of Parent Options and Information at the U. S. Department of Education, spoke about the school’s partnerships with local churches and Cedar Forest’s continuing outreach programs in neighborhoods designed to promote literacy, health, and public safety for children and their families.
The Mid-Atlantic Family Engagement Award is an annual award for schools and districts that have demonstrated innovative and unique strategies to involve parents as equal partners in their child’s education.
The awards and recognitions are sponsored by Successful Innovations, Inc., a professional organization that encourages family engagement as a necessary component to a child’s success in school.
