Holmes gets standing ovation for his board service

School Board Chairman Gil Seaux thanked outgoing board member Don Holmes for his service. Holmes did not seek reelection but instead ran for a seat on the Board of Supervisors. He did not win that race.

Holmes won’t be at the board’s next meeting because of his job.

“You’ve been giving back to our young people … with a servan’ts heart,” Seaux said. “We’re going to miss you.”

Holmes said he would continue to be involved in county schools once he’s off the board. He encouraged the new board members to “put your backs into what you’re going to do,” indicating that they have a tough job ahead of them.

He also said they will have difficult decisions and said “some people will have to break some political ties … to do the right thing.”

After board members’ remarks, Holmes received a standing ovation from the board and those in the audience. His wife, Riverview Elementary Principal Dianne Holmes, was present.
