UPDATE: Lockdown lifted at county schools
UPDATE: The school division lifted the lockdown at 11:30 a.m., schools spokeswoman Rene Daniels said. However, students won’t be allowed to go outdoors until 1 p.m., the same time that county courts will resume operations.
Bomb-sniffing dogs are currently searching the Spotsylvania Courthouse area after the General District Court received a bomb threat about 8:15 this morning, Sheriff’s Lt. Col. Mike Timm said.
Schools in the area were also locked down as a precaution. Those schools include Robert E. Lee Elementary, Courthouse Academy, Gateway Academy, and Spotsylvania Middle School.
The Spotsvlvania courts are to reopen at 1 p.m.
Timm said the county is taking precautions as dogs from the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Homeland Security and the military are searching the area.
Schools issued an alert to parents about the lockdown and are reviewing at what time that will be released.
