Wheelchair-bound student recounts fear of being stranded in Germanna building during quake

Courtney Dole didn’t give up when an accident left her paralyzed from the shoulders down. She finished high school and recently decided to go to college but her first day was harrowing, to say the least.

She was on the top floor of the Dickinson building on Germanna Community College’s Spotsylvania campus when the earthquake rumbled on Aug. 23. As others ran, she was left powerless in her wheelchair and feared the building was going to collapse.

Check out her story in today’s paper and online as well as a video of her talking to two of the people who got her out of the building that day.
