Spotsy schools escape Irene with just a few leaks; shelter is unused

Spotsylvania County schools started on time this morning. Given the past week, that alone is news.

But, to add to that, school staff found a few leaks when they inspected schools yesterday, following Hurricane Irene’s departure. The leaks were all repaired yesterday, schools spokeswoman Rene Daniels just told me.

Principals had been instructed, prior to the storm, to inspect schools on Sunday to make sure any problems were discovered.

Also, Thornburg Middle School opened Saturday at 7:30 p.m. to serve as a shelter but no one showed up so it shut down at 2 a.m. Sunday, Daniels said.
