UMW hosts “Freedom Riders” event tonight
Spotsylvania School Board member Marty Wilder plugged events at the University of Mary Washington this week related to the 50-year commemoration of the Civil Rights-era efforts known as the “Freedom Rides.”
Wilder, who works at UMW, offered the reminders during Monday’s board meeting. For those of you who missed his comments, tonight the school hosts Raymond Arsenault, author of “The Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice.” Arsenault will speak as part of the Great Lives Lecture Series. Four people who participated in the Freedom Rides are scheduled to appear with him. The lecture is free and starts at 7:30 p.m. in Dodd Auditorium, George Washington Hall.
