Riverbend teen is missing

The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office is looking for help in locating a 17-year-old Riverbend High School student who has been missing for three weeks.

Raven Tierra Heard was last seen at the school on Sept. 28.

The sheriff’s office does not suspect foul play but wants to locate Raven to confirm that she is safe, Capt. Liz Scott said this morning.

The sheriff’s office is hoping that classmates and friends from Riverbend or elsewhere will provide information on her whereabouts.

Raven is a black female, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 145 pounds and has a light-colored birthmark along her right jaw line. She was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt and maroon gym shorts.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 540/582-7115 or Crime Solvers at 540/582-5822.

My friend’s daughter is friends with Raven. She has been missing for 3 weeks, and 3 times the police went by my friends house to ask if she’d seen this child. What I wonder is why did it take so long for the FLS to run this missing article.

  • Robbie

It’s possible they did not know about the missing teen. I hope that’s not the case.

I was unfair to accuse FLS for not running the article earlier, when I was just emailed by FLS that they had just gotten the story. But the real question is, why did it take 3 weeks for the FLS to get the story and alert the public. I don’t even recall an amber alert on this 17 year old child.

The paper, in any town, does not consider missing children an issue unless they are found in a “newsworthy” status (meaning dead with gory details. AS A MOM, with a runaway daughter, years ago… I BLEED for this woman, no one can understand what it is like to NOT know where your child is, is she eating, is she ok, is someone hurting her… I’ll spare you the rest. I am paying for Raven and her family, because I cannot do anyting else… And ANYONE who knows anything about where Raven is…. not doing her ANY favors by hiding her from her family…. I hope for the best outcome…. and I feel th is mom’s pain…. ,my girl only gone for a week (and I knew she ran off — still was hard)…We all gotta have each other’s back.

    sorry… praying.. not paying… was emotional…

It’s such a shame that it takes so long for this kind of information to get to the media. We have a missing 17 year old in my area of Northern Kentucky right now. It was 3 weeks before the public was notified with her as well. One thing different about the case in Ky is that foul play is suspected. A segment on CNN is supposed to air tonight with Nancy Grace about her disappearance. I feel so bad for the families of these missing girls. My heart goes out to them all.

FYI: There is another missing teen from Colonial Beach. He has been missing since 10/16/10. I hope it doesn’t take three weeks for him to be found, and I pray that the media gets the word out there soon to help find him. His name is Isaac Wade Miller, he is 15, dark hair, very skinny build, usually wears glasses, and is about 6 ft tall. If anyone has seen Isaac, please contact the Colonial Beach Police Department immediately. Whether foul play is suspected or not, these kids are in danger.

U.S. Department of Justice issues the following “guidance”, which most states are said to “adhere closely to”:[11]

Law enforcement must confirm that an abduction has taken place

The child must be at risk of serious injury or death

There must be sufficient descriptive information of child, captor, or captor’s vehicle to issue an alert

The child must be 18 years old or younger

I hope that all the various county governments and law enforcement agency, towns,…. can start providing information about these strange disappearances in a timely manner. We have changed the way that we share data about various terrorist networks, cell activity, regionally and nationally. It is time for action here. We the people, have a real desire to help the families of these young adults locate their loved ones. There is NO EXCUSE for weeks going by without the proper information made public There are many concerned citizens living in OUR area that truly want to help locate these missing teens. the police and media must make the sharing of information a High Priority in the future.
Whatever happened to the other missing teen from Spotsylvania from several weeks ago? This issue is a real NO BRAINER.

First my heart goes out to the family and families of these missing kids.. Second.. my daughter goes to Riverbend High School and this is the first we have heard of her being missing. I am sure law enforcement like our justice system has alot of loops to go thru , but there has to be someway that the public can help early on with helping to bring these kids back home safely.

Wow I know lots of kids at Riverbend and this is the first I have heard of this young lady being missing!!! Even if we think she left by her own decision she is still a child and information should have been available to the public ASAP to help locate her. This is unacceptable. Fix the loop holes a life depends on it, Law Enforcement!!!!
