The Spotsylvania Lions Club hosts its third annual Adult Spelling Bee at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 at the Fredericksburg Country Club.

Proceeds from the fun event go to two good causes: eye care for the needy and scholarships for Germanna Community College students.

This year’s event will honor Bruce L. Davis, a longtime Lions Club member and former co-owner of Freeman Beverage and chief liaison to the president at Germanna Community College.

“We want to recognize Bruce’s work with the Lions Club to support our eye care efforts and to help Germanna students get scholarships through the GCC Educational Foundation,” said Ann Woolford, who is president of the Spotsylvania Lions Club and Germanna’s vice president for academic affairs and student services.

To participate, each three-person spelling team pays a tax-deductible entry fee of $120. In addition, corporate sponsorships are available.

Spectators and cheerleaders are admitted free.  In addition to providing moral support to their own teams, cheerleaders may use creative means to try to psych out opposing teams.

There will be a cash bar.
