Civil War Crossings looks at logistical nightmare faced by Union and Confederate forces
The next lecture in the Madison County Sesquicentennial Series will be Civil War Crossings at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Madison County High School auditorium. The series is open to the public free of charge. It’s co-sponsored by Germanna Community College.
Madison historian Jim Lilliard will examine the logistical nightmare of moving an army of 25,000 men, with their animals and all their support wagons and equipment, at a time when there were very few if any, bridges and/or crossings.
Lilliard is a retired Virginia Department of Transportation bridge inspector in addition to being an historian.
