Celebrate Virginia Live is making a donation to Germanna Community College’s Educational Foundation  for every ticket sold  through a special GCC portal to see any of the spring and summer series of stars coming to Central Park, including Travis Tritt on Friday, June 3.

If music fans buy their tickets through the GCC portal, the college will get $2 for each one from Celebrate Virginia Live– and Educational Foundation President Bruce Davis and wife Sandy will match that, meaning a total of $4 a ticket will go to the college. Germanna serves the city of Fredericksburg and the counties of Spotsylvania , Stafford, King George, Caroline, Orange, Culpeper and Madison.

“Sandy and I are really honored that the 2011 Celebrate Virginia Live Charity Partner Program has chosen to participate in our $100,000 matching challenge,” Bruce Davis said.
He maintained that Germanna plays a much more important role  than it did in the 1970’s and 1980’s.  “Four-year institutions have become much more research-oriented.  Also, due to budgetary concerns, they can’t handle the number of freshman and sophomores who want to attend.  As a result, Germanna and four-year universities now have transfer agreements, through which a student can get an associate’s degree at home and then it transfers to the four-year institution.  The student enters the four-year institution as a junior.”
He said enrollment has surged at Germanna,  ”Half due to the transfer programs, and a quarter due to people wanting to improve their lot in life by furthering their education and training for when the recession ends.   The other quarter fills the local need for nurses, dental hygienists, day care workers, auto mechanics; the list goes on and on.  We hope everyone can attend the concerts, and help Germanna students achieve their goals and realize their dreams.”
