‘The Nurse Doctor’ comes to GCC Friday night to warn about the danger of burnout facing caregivers

Doris Young, PhD, RN, known as “The Nurse Doctor,” brings her message of taking care of yourself first so you’re able to help others to Germanna Fredericksburg Campus’ Sealy Auditorium at 7 p.m., Friday, March 18. Admission is free and the event is open to the public.

Her book, “Save the First Dance for You,” tells members of the nursing profession, which has a high burnout rate, how to deal with the high level of stress that is part of the job.

Young’s book is about preventing nursing burnout, but it’s applicable to those in many professions and to family members who are home caregivers for elderly parents and children with disabilities.

GCC’s Fredericksburg Campus is located off U.S. 17 in Massaponax, near Cosner’s Corner in Spotsylvania County. Sealy Auditorium is located in the Workforce and Community Education Building.
