King Arthur Flour baking demo set for Saturday in Fairfax, plus weekend cooking plans
If you’re still making plans for Saturday, consider a free baking lesson from King Arthur Flour.
The Vermont-based company that sells flours, baked good mixes and publishes many great recipes, will make a stop in Fairfax during its fall baking demo tour. This is the closest stop to us, so I’m hoping to head up there for one of the two lessons. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., you can learn about perfect pies and savory scones. Or from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., the topic is baking with yeast and whole grains. (I’m leaning toward the later lesson since I’ve been on a bread-making kick lately.)
The demonstration will be held at the Fairfax Marriott at Fair Oaks, 11787 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway. It’s free and registration is not required. You’ll have the chance to talk to employees, get recipes and maybe even get door prizes. (I flipped through their catalog this past weekend at my mother’s house, and there are SO many items I’d like to have. Crossing my fingers to win!) Find more info here.
This weekend also looks to be a prime time to visit the farmers markets before rain sets in. Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania and King George markets are open on Saturday; Stafford’s is Sunday morning.
In addition to picking up my last CSA box this week (and figuring out what to do with my FOUR pie pumpkins), I’ll probably tackle some other kitchen projects, like making a loaf of bread, roasting fall vegetables for easy meal prep later in the week, trying a new cookie recipe and maybe even testing out dog treat recipes for my puppy’s upcoming birthday. I also have a goal. After having a tasteless veggie burger at a restaurant recently, I’m determined to find my own perfect recipe; here’s a Pinterest board dedicated to the cause. I’ll try out a few, (and after cleaning out space in the freezer) and stock up on easy lunches for a few weeks. Any good recipe suggestions?
What are your food-related plans for this weekend? Hope you all have a great weekend, whether you’re in the kitchen or enjoying the beautiful fall weather!
