King George farmers market continues to grow
Nearing the end of its fourth season, the King George Farmers’ Market has seen its weekly attendance nearly double this year, from 350 visitors a week to 600 a week. That’s according to the latest edition of the market’s lively newsletter (another indicator of a vibrant market).
In addition, volunteer ranks have grown from 12 to 40 this year, and a cookbook put out by the market has raised $3,000 for the entity, which brings farmers from King George and Westmoreland counties together with consumers in the parking lot of King George Elementary School every Saturday morning.
The latest issue of the market’s newsletter can be found here. It includes a report on how King George Elementary recently made local produce from the market the star of its cafeteria menu, in recognition of the link between the market and the school. There are also some great recipes for using fall produce.
