Vote for your favorite farmers market
It’s time again for the American Farmland Trust’s America’s Favorite Farmers Markets contest. Markets from all over the country will be campaigning among their supporters and customers for votes now through Sept. 3.
This year’s contest includes all 7,175 markets listed in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Farmers Market Directory. That means many area markets–King George, Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Orange, Eastern Orange, Culpeper and Warrenton among them–are eligible to receive votes.
To cast your ballot, head to this website and type in the name and location of the market you want to support. You can support as many markets as you want, but you can only vote once for each market.
Virginia markets have done well in this contest in the past. The King George Farmers Market won in its size category a few years back, and last year Virginia had more winning markets than any other state, with nine ranked in the Top 20 and four in the Top 5 in their respective size categories.
