How do you like your asparagus?

Folks, here’s fair warning that asparagus season has begun in the Fredericksburg area. This is a brief time each year that, for me at least, is one of the best things about the start of spring.

I didn’t make it out to buy local asparagus until yesterday, but so far our asparagus binge has included a bright pasta salad with steamed asparagus pieces and the past two nights, homemade pizza with chicken sausage and asparagus. I am sure we’ll see it in quiches, puff pastry tarts, simply charred on the grill and roasted in the oven before the season’s out.

If you’re like me, and you need to stuff yourself silly with this stuff before it goes out of season each year, then get out there–to Olde Towne Butcher, to Miller Farms Market, to C&T Produce stands, to Snead’s Farm and any number of other local spots that sell local asparagus (That is not meant to be an exhaustive list, so if you have a good asparagus source around here you’d like to share, please do so in the comments.)
