Want to manage Fredericksburg’s farmers market?
Fredericksburg’s parks & recreation department has an ad out to hire a new manager for the city’s farmers market in Hurkamp Park. Donna Leahy, who managed the market last year–the first full year of paid market management–is still involved with the market, but can’t commit to the every-Saturday manager duties this year.
The idea behind paid, part-time market management is to keep a handle on the “grow-it-yourself” rule at the market, to manage the program that allows SNAP and credit card customers to purchase tokens to use at the market and to provide a place for customers to go with questions and concerns.
The city describes the job like this:
Farmers’ Market Manager (Part Time) – Under general supervision of the Division Manager for Administration and Leisure, in the Parks, Recreation & Public Facilities Department, this part time position is responsible for recruiting and certifying vendors, marketing and promoting the Farmers’ Market, and organizing and scheduling educational events for the Fredericksburg Farmers’ Market (FFM). While the position is open until filled, completed City Applications and resumes should be submitted before the close of business on February 17, 2012.

Parks & Rec’s Wendy Stone said the department plans to split this position among two people, so nobody has to work every Saturday.
