Dahlgren farmers market off to a strong start

King George Farmers Market manager DeLaura Padovan reports that more than 100 shoppers visited the fledgling Dahlgren farmers market in its first hour open last Wednesday. This market will continue on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Potomac Elementary School for at least the next five weeks. Here is Padovan’s report on the inaugural market:

Eleven vendors were onsite with a spectacular array of food, from blackberries and figs to green beans, sweet corn, peppers, tomatoes, eggs, bread and more! We welcome new baker, Bettina Caldeira, whose Jack Daniels Cakes disappeared with amazing rapidity; Carroll Loving, the berry man, and warmly re-welcome Carol Wheeler, our Market’s original cupcake lady, and her husband, Craig, who had eggs and beautiful produce for sale, too. Thank you to all vendors, shoppers and Market supporters and please help us get the word out for next Wednesday. As one Dahlgren worker commented to me, “You’d be a fool not to stop here. It is so convenient and the food is super!”

Tomorrow is July Community Day for the King George Saturday market. Stop by the market at King George Elementary School from 8 a.m. to noon to see a working blacksmith, the Marenje Marimba Ensemble, Master Gardeners and other resources. NSWC Federal Credit Union will also be on-hand, and for every new account opened tomorrow, will make a $25 donation to the King George farmers market. Learn more about the King George market here.
