Mark your calendars: Family Table will bring new market vendors to Fredericksburg
Fredericksburg will host an expanded downtown farmers market Aug. 6, as the city kicks off a week-long, kid-focused restaurant week and food festival called The Family Table. We’ve written here about plans for this event, and we will be bringing you more on this event as it gets closer, but if you’re a regular market shopper, the Aug. 6 market will offer a few new features in addition to the family-focused activities:
- Prince Edward Street will be closed between William and George streets to expand the market. This is an idea some market enthusiasts have been suggesting for a while, so here’s a chance to see how it works.
- Papa Weaver’s Pork, of Orange County, will be selling at the market, as will Culpeper-based Sweet Valley Dairy Farm. Neither of these is a regular vendor at the Saturday downtown market.
- Southern Exposure Seed Exchange will also be on-hand. We profiled this Louisa County business here.
These are highlights for food-focused market-goers, but this festival offers a lot for families, as well, including farm-to-table activities from the Cobblestone Children’s Museum and nationally known fruit and vegetable carver James Parker of VeggyArt.
Even more activities for children will be available in Market Square, a few blocks a way. Learn more here, and look for more information in The Free Lance-Star as this event approaches.
