Where are folks in our area buying groceries? Food Lion has the largest market share in the area, according to Food World magazine’s 2011 market study of the Mid-Atlantic region. Giant and Walmart are both gaining ground on the grocer, though. Read more here.

A Southern-style restaurant could be coming to the Chimneys building on Caroline Street in downtown Fredericksburg. Suni McMath, who ran a similar restaurant that recently closed in South Carolina, has applied for city tax incentives to open in the building. Learn more here.

An Italian gelato shop plans to open in August in the former location of Carvel Ice Cream in Southpoint II in Spotsylvania. This is one of three new eateries coming to the shopping center, including Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina and Buffalo Wild Wings. Cathy Jett has details here.
