Truckers drive on more sleep than new moms
I knew I’d be exhausted with a newborn–but I had forgotten just what sleep deprivation feels like. I now remember why sleep deprivation is used as a torture technique; there are days when I’d give up state secrets for a 20-minute nap. So I can definitely relate to this infographic from American Baby magazine, which shows that new moms drive on less sleep than truckers. The average new mom gets 5 hours and 20 minutes of sleep, while an on-duty trucker gets 6 hours, 50 minutes. I’m jealous of both–I haven’t seen 5 hours of sleep in a night in the past six months. My baby usually settles in for a deep sleep around 4 or 5 a.m. At 6, I have to be up to get her brothers ready for high school.
How much sleep did you get with a baby? How did you handle the sleep deprivation?
