This weekend, the area will mark the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Fredericksburg. And the fun isn’t just for history-loving grownups. Here are two activities for children on Saturday:

  • Children’s Muster, Battle of Fredericksburg 150th Anniversary, Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitors Center, 1013 Lafayette Blvd., Fredericksburg. Kids can try on soldier uniforms and drill with wooden muskets while earning Civil War trading cards. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 540/373-6122; or click here.
  • Second Saturdays at the Museum, Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center, 1001 Princess Anne St. Learn about the Civil War and the life of a drummer boy in the Battle of Fredericksburg. Make a drum and a songbook with Civil War period songs. Speak with Civil War re-enactors and learn about what the war meant to the men, women and children who experienced it. 1–3 p.m. Ages 12 and under. Free drop-in program. 540/371-3037; or click here.
