New kids’ gym to open in Spotsylvania
With today’s rain and the impending cold weather, many parents are probably wondering, “Where the heck can I take my kid this winter to give the living room rug/dog/basic sense or order in my house a break?”
A growing number of businesses that offer paid play for toddlers and other children are cropping up in the area.
The latest addition:
A class-based kid gym called Great Play will open Nov. 30 in Spotsylvania County. The location is off State Route 3, between La-Z-Boy and Otani, at 12200 Amos Lane.
Great Play offers classes for children ages 6 months through fifth grade. It takes a different approach than some of the more gymnastics-based gym programs in town, using computer technology, image projection and directional sound in its play spaces to encourage development of a wide range of motor skills.
The business is owned by parents James and Jacqueline Shugart, and will be offering an open house with free introductory classes Nov. 30 through Dec. 3. Monthly membership is $79 (pretty comparable with rates at the Little Gym, another kids’ gym in town), which includes one weekly class and open gym times, but the business is offering an opening special rate of $39.

And this is probably a good time to ask: What are your favorite places to take young children on cold or rainy days (because we all know Buzzy’s will be packed)?
