Holiday Helping: Spotsylvania Social Services

HOLIDAY HELPING: See more opportunities to help out for the holidays.

Spotsylvania Department of Social Services’s “Holiday Hope” program hopes to help at least 2,600 children this year.

Program coordinator Lori Weresnick said the program matches businesses, churches, community groups and individuals with needy families.

So far, more than 930 families have been matched with sponsors for the holidays–200 families still need sponsors, and about 10-15 families apply to receive help each day.

The program gives a guideline of $100 per child for those who provide gifts and asks the donors to coordinate pickup and delivery of gifts and items directly to the families receiving the help.

Holiday Hope also welcomes donations of money and gift cards.
