City social services seeks to fill empty seat on board

There is a vacancy on the board of Fredericksburg’s Department of Social Services. Here are the details:

The Board of Social Services is an administrative board that has direct oversight of the Fredericksburg City Department of Social Services’ operations.  The Fredericksburg City Department of Social Services provides mandated programs to Fredericksburg residence including: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), foster care, adoption, child protective services, and adult protective services – to name a few.  For more detailed information, visit

The Board meets on the second Friday of each month at 8 a.m. at the DSS office, 608 Jackson Street.  Applicants must apply and be approved by City Council.  Some of the requirements to serve on the Board are:

  • ·        Reside in the City of Fredericksburg,
  • ·        Attend Board and committee meetings,
  • ·        Support the programs, goals, and objectives of the Local Department of Social Services,
  • ·        Monitor and review program and personnel performance, and
  • ·        Enhance the public image of the LDSS.
