More Americans give via text

Did you donate to charity over the holiday season? How did you make that donation?

More and more, Americans are donating via text, the NonProfit Times reports.

I wrote about this phenomenon when it started, just after the Haiti earthquake in 2010.

You may remember that following the massive earthquake, television commercials told potential donors to text a certain number to give $10. And those donors responded en masse. The NonProfit Times said, “In fact, 50 percent of those who heard about the relief efforts via television made their pledge immediately.”

The Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project reported that 9 percent of American adults have donated to a cause via text message.
