How you can help over the holidays
On our Fredericksburg.com Facebook page, several people responded to a post about the Letters to Santa program still needing sponsors. Many said they were going to send an email, to sponsor some children. Others asked for some other opportunities to help. Here are some other ways you can help area residents this holiday season:
Help people with intellectual disabilities: The Arc of the Rappahannock needs gift cards and gifts for area residents with intellectual disabilities, call 540/318-6061 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
Help the homeless: Hope House is looking for people to sponsor families living in their transitional homeless shelter for women and children. Email email@example.com.
Micah Ecumenical Ministries needs adult winter clothes, winter coats, thermal underwear, hand warmers, hats, gloves, scarves and small propane tanks. Call 540/479-4116. Drop off donations Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1013 Princess Anne St. in Fredericksburg.
Help senior citizens:

(Note: while most area programs have already closed their holiday help applications, Spotsy will take families up until Christmas Eve, which means they’ll still be accepting help then too.)
Stafford County’s Department of Social Services still needs sponsors for about 200 families. If you can’t sponsor a family, you could drop off a gift for a child or a teen at the social services office, 1300 Courthouse Road in Stafford, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Coordinators hope to get gifts by Dec. 12 so they can be distributed on Dec. 13. Call 540/658-8732.
