Spending a rainy day indoors? Here’s a good project idea, found via Pinterest. They’re called Blessings Bags–gallon-sized plastic bags stuffed with toiletries, granola bars, fruit cups, socks and more. You can keep them in your car and hand them out when you see someone in need. The idea’s creator, a blogger named Leslie, suggested including a list of homeless resources. So I made these little cards you can print and include in the bags, to help people find Micah Ecumenical Ministries, a local coalition of churches helping the homeless. Micah offers a cold-night shelter, showers, food and help navigating the world of social services.
These bags would also be a great family project to do during the Thanksgiving holiday. Young children can easily help fill the bags. And it would be a great opportunity to talk about gratitude.
Micah is always looking for donations and volunteers. To learn more, call 540/479-4116.
