Mathieu Perreault To Replace Marcus Johansson Against Buffalo
By ZAC BOYER | firstname.lastname@example.org
WASHINGTON – Mathieu Perreault will replace Marcus Johansson in the Washington Capitals’ lineup on Sunday afternoon, head coach Adam Oates said.
Perreault, who was a healthy scratch for the Capitals’ 3-2 overtime loss at New Jersey on Friday, will give the struggling Johansson a rest. The winger has a team-low minus-5 rating and was shifted from the top line to the fourth line before Washington’s loss to Montreal on Thursday.
“I just think he’s been a little bit unlucky lately, and [we’re going to] give him a chance to take a step back and watch a game and re-evaluate,” Oates said.
The Capitals shuffled their lines for the Devils game, with Johansson working as the fourth-line center between Matt Hendricks and Eric Fehr. Perreault figures to assume that role against Buffalo; defensemen Roman Hamrlik will again be scratched from the lineup.
Michal Neuvirth will make his third consecutive start in net for the Capitals after making 32 saves on 35 shots against New Jersey. Braden Holtby started Washington’s first two games.
“I mean, unless one gets really, really hot, I would imagine you’d see a pretty good split with them going back and forth,” defenseman Karl Alzner said. “You know, I think they deserve that. They both have proven that they can play and play really well, so it’s hard to pick one over the other.”
