Braden Holtby To Make Second Start In Net For Capitals
By ZAC BOYER | firstname.lastname@example.org
ARLINGTON – Braden Holtby will against start in goal and Tomas Kundratek and Joey Crabb will make their debuts when the Washington Capitals host Winnipeg in the home opener Tuesday night.
Holtby allowed six goals in the Capitals’ 6-3 loss in the opener at Tampa Bay on Saturday, but head coach Adam Oates said starting Holtby “was the plan.”
Kundratek, recalled from Hershey on Monday, had 13 goals and 13 assists in 41 games with the Bears and will be paired with fellow Czech native Roman Hamrlik. Oates said he wants the right-handed Kundratek in the lineup and isn’t keen on playing defenseman on their weak sides.
“It’s more for balance,” Oates said. “The game is so fast that you put a guy in the wrong position, sometimes they can’t execute, and you don’t really want to evaluate a guy based on that. He just – he’s played the position down below. He knows our system and I think just having the right shot will help us escape at times when we’re in trouble.”
Crabb, who played last season in Toronto, was a healthy scratch for the opener against Tampa Bay as the Capitals went with seven defensemen. He will play instead of Eric Fehr, who played for the Jets last season.
“I’m excited,” said Crabb, who is penciled in as the fourth-line right wing. “We’ll see how she goes, and hopefully get a win.”
