NATIONALS: Gio Gonzalez Finishes Third In National League Cy Young Voting
Washington Nationals lefthander Gio Gonzalez finished a distant third in voting for the National League Cy Young Award on Wednesday, which was ultimately won by the New York Mets’ R.A. Dickey.
Gonzalez, who went 21-8 with a 2.89 ERA, earned just one first-place vote from the panel of 32 members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America chosen to vote for the award. Dickey, the Mets’ righthanded knuckleballer, led the National League with 233 2/3 innings pitched, 230 strikeouts, five complete games and three shutouts and was the only pitcher listed on every ballot.
Los Angeles Dodgers lefthander Clayton Kershaw was the runner up, with Cincinnati righthander Johnny Cueto and Atlanta Braves righthander Craig Kimbrel, who had 42 saves, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
