Recent police reports and arrests in Fredericksburg:

800 block Sophia St, 8/7 11:40 p.m.  Four females, ages 29-38 and all from Locust Grove, were walking back to their cars in the parking lot after spending time together at a downtown restaurant.  The four had split up into pairs as they returned to their vehicles when one of the women noticed a man running in the direction of her and her friend.  When the man got close, he grabbed the woman’s purse and pushed her to the ground with enough force that she hit her head on the pavement.  The woman and her friend began screaming, and the suspect also grabbed the second woman’s purse and took off.

When the second pair of females heard the other women yelling and saw their friend on the ground and a man running away, they started chasing after the suspect.  The two women caught up with the suspect and knocked him to the ground, punching and kicking him as they tried to hold him down.  The suspect was able to free himself and got up and ran away, but the women chased him down a second time.  One of the women was punched in the face twice during the ensuing struggle.  The suspect dropped one of the purses he had stolen and one of the women wrestled the second purse away from him before the offender once again fled.

When officers arrived on the scene, an ambulance was called to check on the first victim, but she did not require transport to the hospital.  Officers also summoned assistance from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.  Officers searched the area and two K-9 teams from Spotsylvania County attempted to track the suspect, but he was not located.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early to mid 20s, 5’7” – 5’10” and approximately 180 pounds, and with straight hair that almost reached his shoulders.  He was wearing a black tank top, khaki shorts, and a black ball cap turned backwards.   The investigation is ongoing.
