Beware of callers claiming to be the police
The Police Department has recently fielded a large number of complaints from citizens who report they have received phone calls from a man claiming to be a member of the Fredericksburg Police Department and who is asking for donations in a fundraising effort.
Apparently the solicitor uses very aggressive tactics on the phone and more than one complainant has reported that he even promises “we can get you out of a ticket” if they will agree to donate a sum of money.
This fundraising campaign is in no way connected to the Fredericksburg Police Department.
Remember that if someone calls you asking for a donation for any cause, you have the right to decline, to ask questions to verify the claims of the caller, and to hang up and end the conversation at any time.
We are aware of a fundraising campaign being conducted by the local Fraternal Order of Police. Any questions about the FOP campaign should be directed to its treasurer, Curtis Wehrmann, by calling the FOP lodge at 540-891-0491.
