Suspect Arrested for Homicide 2nd Suspect Still at Large

A suspect has been arrested for the homicide that occurred on November 24 in the 1900 block of Howard Avenue.  Detectives with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office detained Wesley Carlton Smith, 22, at approximately 5 p.m. on December 18 and turned him over to the custody of Fredericksburg investigators. 

Smith is charged with first degree murder and armed robbery for his involvement in the shooting death of 28-year-old Rodney Beanum, Jr.

Smith has been incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.

A second homicide suspect, Lorenzo McKinley Jones, 19, is still at large.  Jones also faces charges of first degree murder and robbery.  Jones is known to frequent Richmond, Virginia and Washington D.C.   

Lorenzo McKinley Jones is considered armed and dangerous.  Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Wayne Hunnicutt at 540-654-5753 or the Fredericksburg Police Department at 540-373-3122.  Callers are not required to give their names.
