With the widespread power outages throughout Fredericksburg, particularly in the downtown, Mayfield, and College Heights areas, City officials are assessing the need for an emergency cooling shelter to assist residents in the face of expected record breaking high temperatures today.

If you or someone you know has an immediate need for assistance, call 911 now.

If you anticipate the need for shelter today because of a lack of power or air conditioning, please contact the dispatch center on the non-emergency number 540-373-3122 (at the recording, press 1 to reach a dispatcher). Leave your name, address, phone number, and the number of people in your household who may require assistance. You should also be prepared to provide information about special medical needs for those in your family. By calling now, the City will be better able to assess the shelter requirements for Fredericksburg residents.
