Armed Robbery reported at Sheetz in City

An armed robbery occurred at the Sheetz, 2001 Carl D Silver Pkwy, at 5:50 am this morning.  Three armed and masked male suspects entered the store and pepper sprayed both clerks, then stole cash from the register and the purses from the two employees, and ransacked the interior of the office.

Immediately after leaving the store, one suspect carjacked a vehicle from an arriving customer in the parking lot.  The two other suspects fled on foot toward the Riverside Manor townhouse complex.

The two female clerks were treated by rescue personnel on the scene for the effects of pepper spray exposure, but they were not injured.  The female driver of the carjacked vehicle immediately complied with the suspect’s demand to give up her Volkswagen Passat, and she escaped injury as well.

The stolen Passat was located unoccupied at Riverside Manor Townhomes by VA State Police troopers at approximately 7:00 am.  Officers, detectives, and a State Police bloodhound searched the area extensively but the suspects have not been located.  Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and processing evidence.

This information is preliminary and the investigation is ongoing.
