Suspect Arrested for Rooftop Larceny
On August 19, 2011, a Task Force which included members of the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office, Stafford Sheriff’s Office, and the Fredericksburg Police Department conducted a surveillance operation targeting the primary suspect in the multiple rooftop larcenies that have occurred throughout the area for the past several months. The suspect was initially identified through a tip provided to detectives at the Fredericksburg Police Department.
Jonathan Alan Nestor, 28, of Spotsylvania County was arrested for grand larceny and grand larceny with the intent to sell after he dismantled two large HVAC Package Units on the roof of the former Sunset Thai Restaurant at 1885 Carl D Silver Parkway. The HVAC units were completely destroyed and the estimated value of the property loss is $60,000.
Nestor has also been identified as the suspect in the rooftop HVAC larceny cases that occurred at the Gateway Village Shopping Center, Fredericksburg Shopping Center, Greenbrier Shopping Center, Fredericksburg Industrial Park, Washington Square, Spotsylvania Towne Center and Culpeper Town Center.
Nestor is currently free on an $8000 cash bond.
The larcenies that occurred prior to Nestor’s arrest on August 19 are still under investigation and evidence seized from his person, vehicle, and home will be sent to the State Forensics Lab for analysis. The additional cases will be presented to the appropriate Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Offices at a later date.
