Cell phone stolen and held for ransom

Hardee’s, 1700 Princess Anne St, 4/12 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm.  A 17-year old female from Stafford reported that she inadvertently left her cell phone on a table at Hardee’s and when she realized it was missing, she asked her boyfriend to send a text message to the phone in an attempt to locate it.  An unknown person responded to the message with a text stating that the phone would be returned upon payment of a sum of money and that the victim needed to meet the unknown party at Happy Endings on Princess Anne St with cash.

The victim contacted police and arranged to have officers standing by out of sight while she and her boyfriend waited at Happy Endings.  A short time later, the victim was approached by a male subject who asked the girl and her boyfriend to follow him to the library on Caroline Street.  Officers intervened and identified the male, who stated that he had been asked by a female subject to meet the victim and bring her to the library to retrieve the phone.

The male subject provided a description of the suspect as a heavyset black female with orange highlights in her hair, and the description matches that of a regular customer of Hardee’s who was verified by the manager to have been inside the restaurant during the time that the phone was lost.  Officers searched the area for the female suspect but were unable to locate her.  The male subject was released without charges and the investigation is ongoing.
