Puppy steals the show at Citizen’s Police Academy

Last night was Week 5 of the Citizen’s Police Academy, and the students were treated to an awesome demonstration of the talents of patrol K9 Max with his partner Officer Dave Reilly.  Max was equally adept at apprehending a combative suspect (portrayed by K9 handler Officer Jeff Wood) and finding a stash of marijuana that was hidden in the trunk of a car.  Max was very impressive and very beautiful as he happily showed off his training and was rewarded by being allowed to chase a tennis ball.

But it was Bryce who stole the show.  Bryce is the newest recruit at the Fredericksburg Police Department, seven weeks old and nothing but big paws and fluffy face.

"Bryce"

Bryce is intended to be Officer Wood’s next working K9 and he will hopefully take over the duties of Wood’s current partner Falco, who will be retiring in the next year or so.  Jeff says that Bryce is “not afraid of anything”, and last night he galloped right in to our training room full of strangers and introduced himself to all of our Citizen’s Academy participants.  Bryce showed us his natural aptitude for police work by chasing and catching the “bite suit”, then trying to drag it across the room despite the fact that it is at least five times his own size.   Good boy!
