Frye declared the winner in Fredericksburg’s Ward 4
UPDATE: The review of Tuesday’s election has been completed for Ward 4 and Charlie L. “Chuck” Frye Jr. has been declared the winner.
He gained three votes when provisional ballots were reviewed this morning, Registrar Juanita Pitchford said. That gave a final vote of 321 for Frye and 300 for incumbent Bea Paolucci.
UPDATE: Under Virginia election law, a defeated candidate who loses by less than 1 percent of the votes cast can receive a recount upon request. However, unless today’s canvas changes Tuesday night’s results by 12 votes or more, the Ward 4 race won’t fall into that category.
The total votes cast in the Ward 4 race were 618 and Frye won by a difference of 18 votes, which is about a 3 percent margin.
The canvas is still going on in the registrar’s office as of 11 a.m.
Hamilton Palmer, Bea Paolucci’s significant other, is present on her behalf.
Marcel Kay, Charlie “Chuck” Frye Jr.’s campaign manager, is present on Frye’s behalf.
UPDATE: There are four provisional ballots in Ward 4. Unless the canvas finds other voting issues, those would not be sufficient to change the outcome of the race.
Fredericksburg’s Electoral Board began its canvas of yesterday’s voting at 9:30 this morning at the registrar’s office.
Currently, they are reviewing provisional ballots that were cast.
Representatives for Ward 4 candidates Chuck Frye Jr. and Bea Paolucci are present.
Frye led by 18 votes in the Ward 4 race last night but the tally is not yet final.
