Two Fredericksburg restaurants appear bound for ‘Savory Sixteen’

culinary300Foode and The Bavarian Chef in Fredericksburg appear to have qualified for round two of the  Virginia is for Lovers Culinary Madness contest, which would put them into the “Savory Sixteen.”

However, it appears that the fried egg sandwich at Culpeper’s Foti’s Restaurant may have just missed the cut. Foti’s and Foode are in the same group – Group 4 – and it appears that Foode’s Fredericksburger is currently in second place, trailing behind an ice cream dish. The contest’s early rounds have restaurants in four groups or brackets.

The Bavarian Chef in Fredericksburg is in Group 2 and appears to be in front. Its Madison restaurant is in Group 4.

Raw results of the first round of competition are online now but organizers haven’t officially announced the 16 that form round two. Voting for round two is expected to begin later today.

You can check full details on the contest at my first full story.

Below is a list of competitors from our region and the dishes featured in the online contest.

The Barbeque Exchange, Gordonsville, double BLT: pork belly and bacon (Group 3)

The Bavarian Chef, Fredericksburg, schweinshaxe, Fredericksburg (Group 2)

The Bavarian Chef, Madison, creamy red pepper soup with lump crabmeat (Group 4)

Foode, Fredericksburg, The Fredericksburger (Group 4)

Foti’s Restaurant, Culpeper, fried egg sandwich (Group 4)
