Ellis proposes split of city’s economic development and tourism departments
UPDATE: All members of City Council support the idea.
UPDATE: Ellis is now speaking on the matter. He said he thinks the city is reactive.
He thinks a 100 percent focus on economic development and 100 percent focus on tourism would be more effective. He said he understands that would be an increased cost.
City Councilman Brad Ellis this evening will propose that the city consider splitting its economic development and tourism department into two components.
He will recommend the council hold a work session to discuss the pros and cons of the idea and how best to partner activities of the city’s economic development staff and the city’s Economic Development Authority.
