ICYMI: City closures for today

Here’s a summary of key closures today because of the weather.

Schools are closed.

Fredericksburg government offices are closed all day. Essential personnel must still report as directed by their supervisors.

Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FRED) bus service will not be running today.

The Dorothy Hart Community Center will remain closed today.  All classes and leagues have been cancelled.

Alum Spring, Dixon, Old Mill and the Dog Park are all closed today.

No refuse or recycling collection today. Below are details from the city Public Works Department.

“The predicted low temperatures, combined with even lower wind chills and the fact that many streets and sidewalks – both public and on private property – will not have been cleared of snow and ice by tomorrow morning create an unacceptable hazard to the Public Works employees who would be making the collections.

Regularly scheduled collections will resume on Thursday. Customers whose refuse would have been collected Wednesday will have their refuse collected Friday (thus just one collection for those customers this week). Recyclables that are normally collected on Tuesday or Wednesday will be collected on those days next week (thus, no collection of recyclables for those residents this week.)

We understand that this decision causes inconvenience for residents of the City and regret that inconvenience, but the decision is necessary to protect the safety and health of the City’s employees who make these collections.”
