Resident compares proposed roundabout to ‘demolition derby’

John Howard, a resident of Braehead Drive, just told the City Council that the plan for a roundabout on Lafayette Boulevard isn’t a good one.

He said they work well on flat terrain and where people can see them coming up but not on what he termed the “steepest” road in the city.

He said the proposal to put one on Lafayette Boulevard at Lee Drive is poor because of the terrain and is especially dangerous in times of snow, rain and ice.

He said that putting one at that location will “create a demolition derby at worst.”

The council is expected to vote tonight on a rezoning request for the Telegraph Hill development. If approved, the roundabout would be built.
