Extra city parking at leased lot starts tonight

The parking lot the city leased at 904 Princess Anne St. will be available starting this evening, Economic Development and Tourism Director Karen Hedelt said this morning.

The city is leasing the lot to provide additional parking in the downtown area. Parking fees will be collected by a meter that people can add additional money to from remote locations.

behind 904 Princess Anne Street, accessible from Princess Anne and Charles Streets, will be available from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday and around the clock on weekends. Complimentary parking will be provided on Sundays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“This is an effective means to improve utilization of the parking inventory in Fredericksburg’s downtown,” Fredericksburg City Manager Beverly Cameron said in a prepared statement. “The lot is well-located and will provide convenient parking for the public.”

Parking will cost $1 per hour at the “Pay on Foot Station” located in the lot. It accepts cash, credit cards and some debit cards. The pay station offers prompts to register parking by numbered spaces in the lot. People paying by credit card can set a cell phone reminder for a time extension option.

The parking lot has 40 spaces. Thirty are located behind 904 Princess Anne St. and the other 10 are beyond the main lot’s boundary wall.

Vehicles parked in the lot beyond the 6 p.m to 6 a.m. timeframe are subject to towing.
