Public hearing on baseball parking issue is Oct. 22

A public hearing on the proposal to amend Fredericksburg’s Comprehensive Plan and Capital Improvements Plan to allow the city to build a parking lot to serve a privately financed stadium in Celebrate Virginia South will be held in two weeks.

The issue went before the Planning Commission on Sept. 25 and received unanimous support. City Council will take it up at its Oct. 22 meeting at 7:30 p.m.

The 1,800-space parking lot is estimated to cost between $7 million and $8 million.

The proposal is for a multipurpose stadium that would be home to the minor league Hagerstown Suns, which applied this month to relocate from Maryland.

The owners of the Suns and Diamond Nation – a baseball and softball complex in New Jersey – are partnering to build the $29 million stadium. Local auto dealer Ron Rosner is also investing in the project.
