Fredericksburg Fire Department puts out attic fire
A smoldering attic fire created by electrical problems damaged an apartment on Kenmore Avenue Wednesday evening, Deputy Fire Chief Mike Jones of the Fredericksburg Fire Department announced this morning.
The occupants of the structure were able to get out before fire department arrival and no one was injured.
Dispatchers received a call at 7:35 p.m. about a possible fire in the attic of 1324 Kenmore Ave. but discovered it was actually in the adjoining building at 1320 Kenmore Ave., above Apartment D, Jones said.
Firefighters were hampered by the amount of blown-in style insulation that made it difficult to trace the origin of the fire.
The Fredericksburg Fire Department’s Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating but Jones reported the origin appears to be in the ceiling area of apartment D in the 1320 building. The cause was still under investigation this morning but appeared to be electrical in nature.
The last fire unit left the scene about 10 p.m.
