Six of 10 speakers during City Council public comment time support baseball stadium
Six of 10 people who spoke during public comment time of tonight’s City Council meeting expressed support for building a multi-purpose stadium. Two identified themselves as local business owners in Central Park and said they’d be willing to pay additional taxes to help pay for the stadium if it were publicly financed.
Another speaker was Tom Byrnes, who is working with the owners of the Hagerstown Suns, the minor league team that has expressed interest in relocating here from Maryland.
He hit highlights of the Suns’ revised proposal reported this afternoon by Free Lance-Star and fredericksburg.com reporter Bill Freehling.
Council is scheduled to go behind closed doors at the end of this evening’s meeting to discuss negotiations to date between the Suns and the city.
