School Board to see budget proposal tonight

The Fredericksburg School Board will see a presentation of the proposed 2013-2014 operating budget at tonight’s meeting.

The proposed budget is 5.29 percent (or about $1.3 million) larger than the current budget.

It includes six additional full time positions and four additional part time positions and a 3 percent average step increase in pay for employees.

Look for more information here during and after the meeting about the proposed budget.

The School Board is also expected to take action on the proposed 10-point grading scale, which was presented at the last meeting.

The recommended grading scale is here. It would be effective Sept 1. for grades 3-12 (Lafayette Upper Elementary, Walker-Grant Middle and James Monroe High).

There will also be a presentation on a regional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) initiative presentation from George Hughes, the Chairman of the FredTech STEM16 committee.

Director of Operations Bob Burch will update the school on school safety procedures. The School Board is considering hiring a school resource officer for Walker-Grant Middle.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers of City Hall, 715 Princess Anne St.
