City school system sends letter to parents
Fredericksburg City Public Schools had an increased presence from the Fredericksburg Police Department, the Fredericksburg Sheriff’s Office and the “Central Office team” Monday and will continue to all week.
Administrators also sent a letter home to parents and guardians Monday:
Dear Parents and Guardians:
We realize the tragic events in Newtown, Connecticut have many of us saddened, confused, and concerned. During this difficult time, our thoughts and sympathy are with those who are suffering through this tragedy. Nevertheless we are grateful for the support, training and security procedures that the Fredericksburg City Public Schools has put into place over the past decade. It is especially evident that our schools continue to emphasize the safety of our children and to make that our number one priority as we reflect, plan, and communicate about this tragedy.
We understand and support that you may have shared information about this event with your children this weekend in a way that you believe is best for them. Throughout the week our teachers and staff will provide comfort and information when students need them. Our Central Office team and the Sheriff and Police departments will have an increased presence at our schools. Our school counselors, school psychologists, and school administrators will be ready to offer support to any children who need additional reassurance.
Thank you for your continued support, and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your school.
